A common debate in the gaming and YouTube world is ‘Who is better; PewDiePie or Markiplier?’ In this blog, we won’t talk about who is better, but why certain people prefer one over the other. Hopefully this can give a decent outlook on both perspectives and possibly even answer some curious questions in your head.
We’ll begin with Felix Arvid Ulf Kjellberg, also known as, PewDiePie or Pewds. Felix is known most for his booming personality and his Swedish accent. Some find him convivial and warm, while others find him just pure gaudy and obtrusive. Either way, there’s no doubt Felix has a noisy way of making videos on his PewDiePie YouTube channel.
With over 43 million subscribers on YouTube, Pewds has knocked out any competition in his way. He is famous for his “Fridays with PewDiePie” and “Let’s play” commentaries. PewDiePie refers to his fans as his “Bro-Army” and ends his videos with a “Bro-Fist” by motioning his fist to the screen before cutting the video. Felix uses some of his money from YouTube to donate to charities, which is a huge plus in the fan base! Holding the title of the most viewed channel of all time, it’s fairly obvious PewDiePie is the leader in the Pewds v. Mark debate. Check an example of PewDiePie’s gaming reviews in the Dark Souls III video below.
Mark Edward Fischbach, also known as Markiplier, is well known for his videos on Indie Horror Games on YouTube. He has the 24th most subscribed channel on YouTube, with over 4 billion total video views. Mark is known most for his witty and comical personality. Some viewers see Markiplier as a more caring individual, as compared to PewDiePie. Some people believe Pewds is only in it for the money, while Mark is in it for his fans and charity. Others would disagree and believe that they both are in it for the same reason.
Regardless of accusations, both parties show equal affection to their fans. While PewDiePie holds the winning title in current popularity, I know a lot of YouTube fans who personally prefer Mark because he is, as commenter Damien King notes, “less annoying, doesn’t scream in your ear constantly and doesn’t cheat and Google gameplay like PewDiePie does.” You can get a taste of Markiplier in his gameplay video of Sophie’s Curse below.
I hope this gives you a better idea of both YouTubers if you are new to watching them or just curious.
